Know Your Rights and Responsibilities Before Selecting a Mover
Before moving your household goods, movers are required to give you this brochure and a booklet entitled Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move. They provide basic information that will help you understand the documents that a mover will ask you to sign. The booklet also explains your rights if your household goods are lost or damaged. Copies of this brochure and booklet can be downloaded from the Web site www.protectyourmove.gov, which has additional helpful consumer information.

Use Only Registered Movers
Make sure the mover you select has been assigned a USDOT number, is registered with FMCSA to engage in interstate transportation of household goods, and has the proper level of insurance.
You can determine if a mover is registered with FMCSA by accessing www.protectyourmove.gov, or calling FMCSA at (202) 366-9805 for licensing and (202) 385-2423 for insurance.

Read and Understand All Information Provided by the Mover
The mover should provide you with the following basic documents as part of your move:
EstimatesThe estimate should clearly describe, in writing, all charges for services the mover will perform. Make sure the estimate is signed by the mover.Do not accept oral estimates.
Order for ServiceThe order for service is a list of all the services the mover will perform and shows the dates your household goods will be picked up and delivered.
Bill of LadingThe bill of lading is a contract between you and the mover and a receipt of your belongings. You should be given a partially completed copy of the bill of lading before the mover leaves the residence at origin.
Inventory ListThe inventory is the receipt showing each item you shipped and its condition. Be sure you receive a written copy of the inventory after your household goods are loaded, and that you agree with its description of your household goods' condition.

What if There Is a Problem?
Dispute Settlement ProgramBefore moving your household goods, interstate movers are required to provide you with information regarding their dispute settlement program. Movers must offer a neutral dispute settlement program as a means of settling disputes that may arise concerning loss or damage of your household goods.
Loss or Damage of GoodsIf your goods are damaged or missing at delivery, request a company claim form from the mover. Complete the claim form to the best of your ability. The mover will tell you where to mail the completed form. You must file a written claim with the mover within 9 months of delivery. Your claim must be in writing but does not have to be submitted on a mover's claim form. It is suggested that you send the claims information to the mover by certified mail.
If you are not satisfied with the settlement offer made by the mover, you have the option of submitting a loss and damage claim with the mover's dispute settlement program or to seek other legal remedies.
Applicable Transportation ChargesThe charges that a mover assesses for its services must be contained in a published tariff, which must be made available to you upon request. If you feel that a mover has overcharged you, you can contact the Surface Transportation Board at 1-866-254-1792 to obtain further assistance.
Filing a ComplaintFMCSA does not have the authority to resolve claims against a moving company. However, you may file a complaint against a mover by visiting http://nccdb.fmcsa.dot.gov or calling 1-888-DOT-SAFT (1-888-368-7238) Monday–Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. e.s.t. Your complaint may trigger a Federal enforcement investigation against the mover.

Key Definitions
Broker: A company that arranges for the truck transportation of cargo belonging to others, utilizing for-hire carriers to provide the actual truck transportation. A broker does not assume responsibility for the cargo and usually does not take possession of the cargo.
Tariff: A list of rates, rules, regulations, and available services. Each mover publishes its own tariffs and these must be provided to you upon request.

In order to determine an approximate weight of your shipment, you can fill out our online estimate form or call World Moving & Storage, we will give you our rates for various weights for budgeting purposes. However, like all other moving companies, we will be unable to determine the exact weight of your shipment until the actual day of the move.
We welcome you to join us at a government regulated weigh station while we weigh the truck with and without your shipment fully loaded. The difference between those two weights is the weight of your shipment. Besides the transportation charges, additional factors that will effect the price of your move include: Packing by the Moving Company. Accessorial charges which are things that keep the door of the truck away from the door of your new or old home such as a flight of stairs, elevators, excessive long carry, the need to use a small shuttle vehicle, etc. Your choice of additional valuation for the move. What Is World Moving & Storage?

Do You Supply Boxes?
Most if not all movers carry a large assortment of boxes and materials to pack the contents of your home. These boxes are not free. Movers pay for them and will usually charge you a discounted rate should you decide to move with them. World Moving & Storage provides boxes for a fee during your move to protect fragile items. However, if you want to pack your stuff before the move, you can order some packing materials here. We do not recommend getting boxes from your local grocery store. These boxes are often flimsy and many times carry insects because food surrounds them. Always use double corrugated boxes, not single. The stronger your boxes, the better chance your goods have surviving any mishaps, should they occur.

Do You Provide Packing Services?
Yes, we have careful and experienced employees to pack your residence at our standard hourly rates. On most packing/moving engagements, we pack homes and large office moves on day one and move on day two.

When Is The Best Time To Move?
If there is a choice, most moving companies suggest you avoid the summer, beginning or end of the month or winter holidays. The heaviest demands are placed on vans, equipment and personnel during these periods.
However, you should move when it's most convenient for you. Factors involved in the decision may include:
* Whether the move must be made immediately.* Transferring children during the school term.* Separation of the family while the move is under way.
If the move can be scheduled for a time when vans and trained personnel are most readily available, we'll be better equipped to meet your preferred delivery schedule.

What Items Are Not Allowed To Move?
Before your possessions are packed and loaded, it is important that you understand which items cannot be shipped because they represent a hazard or are perishable. Listed below are some common non-allowable items that you will need to address prior to your pack and load dates:
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS - items that are flammable, corrosive or explosive.

Can I Move My House Plants?
World Moving & Storage cannot accept responsibility for safely moving your plants, because they may suffer from a lack of water and light as well as probable temperature changes while in the van. You may prefer to transport your house plants in the family car or ship them by plane.
Some states prohibit the entry of all plants, while other states will admit plants under certain conditions; still others have no plant regulations. Be sure to check the regulations of the state to which you're moving.

Can I Move My Pet?
Pets cannot be carried on the moving van. Dogs, cats, canaries and parakeets can usually be transported in the family car. If this isn't convenient, your World Moving & Storage agent will be glad to suggest alternate ways to ship your pets safely.

If you are moving with children, one of your big concerns will be where to send your children to school. A great tool to help you find out what schools are in your area is The School Report.
